It is now wrong to think of Cesc as one of the best young players in the world. He should just be viewed as among the greatest central midfielders on the planet regardless of age.
Tigerish in the tackle and blessed with wonderful technique and vision, Cesc has just enjoyed arguably his best season for Arsenal since joining the Club as a 16-year-old in September 23. It was no surprise to see him command over 60 per cent of the vote in Arsenal.com's Player of the Year poll.
The Spaniard first came to prominence at the Under-17s World Cup when he walked off with awards for best player and top scorer. Soon after arriving from Barcelona, he became Arsenal's youngest ever player and scorer.
He surpassed 150 appearances for the Club while still a teenager and has been short-listed for PFA Young Player of the Year for the past three seasons. At the start of the current season, Cesc had earned 15 Spanish caps and represented his country at the 2006 World Cup.
My Year
January
Cesc looked set for another barren spell on the goal front but rocketed home the final goal of the month against Newcastle. Despite not finding the net before then, the Spaniard was typically influential from the middle of the park in the six games he played. He also registered three assists.
December
An injury-hit month for Cesc started with the visit of Chelsea. In that game his corner set-up the winning goal, a feat mirrored a week later in the North London derby. He was withdrawn in the dying moments of the win at Everton having also played throughout the draw with Portsmouth.
November
A quiet month by the high standards already set out by Cesc - he only scored once! The Spaniard was in action for his country but was suspended against Wigan before a hamstring injury forced him off against Sevilla.
October
Cesc is becoming one of the most coveted midfielders on the planet and his October performances showed why. With an already impressive goals and assists tally this season, he found the net three more times in October, most notably against Liverpool. The Spaniard didn't miss a minute of the domestic campaign and also featured for Spain in their Euro 2008 qualifying matches with Denmark and Finland. He capped the month off by topping an Arsenal.com poll that named him Player of the Month.
